Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, including the ones about what Saju cannot do.
What is Saju?
Saju (사주) means “four pillars”. Your birth year, month, day and hour each produce a pair of characters — one heavenly stem and one earthly branch — giving eight characters in total, known as Saju Palja (사주팔자).
Those eight characters are read through Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and cycles of time. The character for your birth day is called the Day Master, and it represents you.
How is Saju different from Western astrology?
Western astrology is commonly built from the positions of the sun, moon and planets at your birth. Saju is built from a calendar system: the sexagenary cycle of stems and branches, applied to four units of time.
They are different traditions with different vocabularies, not competing versions of the same thing. Neither is a correction of the other.
How is Korean Saju different from Chinese BaZi?
They share the same underlying Four Pillars structure, which is why the eight characters agree. The differences are in emphasis, terminology and interpretive habit.
This service presents the Korean tradition: Korean romanization (Saju, Ohaeng, Daewoon, Gunghap), Korean conventions for the midnight boundary, and Korean interpretive framing. Chinese-language BaZi services often make different default choices, particularly on the day boundary.
Do I need my exact birth time?
Not to get a chart. Without a time you get three pillars instead of four, which still gives your year, month and day, and your Day Master.
But the hour pillar matters. It carries a quarter of the chart, governs private life and later-life direction, and changes the element balance. We will not invent one — if you do not give a time, the report says which parts are missing rather than filling them in.
What happens if I was born near midnight?
This is the single most consequential edge case in Saju. The 子 hour runs from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM, and Korean schools disagree about which day it belongs to.
We use the Yajasi convention, where a birth at or after 11:00 PM in the applied local solar time takes the following day. Whenever another accepted method would give you a different chart, your report lists it in full — including what your Day Master would be under it.
Why do you need my birth city?
Because the clock is not the sun. Time zones are political boundaries; your hour pillar depends on where the sun actually was. Seoul runs about 32 minutes behind its own legal time, so a late-evening birth there can sit in a different hour entirely once corrected.
Your city also determines which historical time zone and daylight-saving rules applied on the day you were born. We look the city up in a table bundled with the site, so your birth place is never sent to an outside geocoding service.
Is Saju scientifically proven?
No. Saju is a traditional interpretive practice with a long history in Korea, not a tested scientific model, and we do not claim any accuracy rate.
What we do claim is that the calculation is done correctly and transparently, and that the interpretation follows classical principles rather than being improvised.
Is this a subscription?
No. There is no subscription anywhere in this product. A personal reading is $19.90 once; a couple or family compatibility reading is $32.99 once, for two to four people.
Nothing recurs, and nothing is charged before you have seen your chart.
Can I read my report again?
Yes. Your report lives at a private link containing a long random token. Save it and you can return whenever you like, and print it or save it as a PDF at any time.
If you gave an email address at checkout, a link can be sent there. Opening the same report again never asks for payment twice.
Can Saju predict my future?
We do not present it that way, and this service will not tell you that something is destined to happen.
What a reading describes is tendency and timing: what your chart traditionally associates with ease, what it associates with cost, and which periods classically ask more of you. Your decisions and your circumstances matter more than any reading.
How is my personal information protected?
Your birth details are stored only so your report can be regenerated and reopened, and they are held behind a server that browsers never query directly. Payment card details never reach us — Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record and handles the transaction.
Reports are addressed by an unguessable token rather than a sequential id, are excluded from search engines, and can be deleted by you at any time. Nothing is sold or shared for advertising.
What if you calculated my chart incorrectly?
Send us your birth date, time, city, and the pillars you believe are correct along with the source. A calculation error is refunded in full, and if the error is in our engine we fix it and bump the calculation version.
Note that a chart which differs because a different convention was used — the midnight boundary, or the equation of time — is not necessarily an error. Your report lists those alternatives explicitly for that reason.
Your chart is free and takes about a minute.
